Homework-No Excuses!
Homework will be an extension of the day’s topic. It will be checked at the onset of the class. Late assignments will only count 60%. Students will not be permitted to return to their lockers for forgotten assignments.Assignments left in lockers are late and should be presented the next session for half credit.
Tutoring
Sixth grade social studies teachers tutor on Thursday mornings from 8:00-8:30. Students MUST acquire a tutoring “pass”-port from their teacher prior to attending each week. Each teacher tutors in their classroom.
Materials and A/B Day
Students are to report to class with their social studies composition book and a writing utensil. Tape is highly recommended! It is imperative this composition book is brought to every class and is maintained throughout the year.
Social studies is taught as instructional sessions. Each A day/B day is numerically designated as a session and it is essential that students label items from each session correctly. This systematic approach avoids confusion especially when absent or preparing for a test. Homework should be completed beneath the day’s instruction/notes and labeled.
On-Line Assignments
Students will have on-line assignments to be completed outside of class. If a student does not have access to a computer at home, students may use the computers in my classroom before school. Technology problems will not excuse an assignment from a deadline or an assignment. Students simply need to see me to sign-up for computer time. Scheduling computer time and using my computers must be done in advance of the assignment due date.
Retakes
*Students may retake formal assessments once. The highest score attainable on a retake is a 79%. Retakes are administered before or after school. Students must complete a reteaching activity or attend a tutoring session before they will be permitted to retake an assessment.
